South African New Products and Kosher Alerts

November 3, 2020: From the Beth Din of Johannesburg:

  • Kosher Alerts Summary
    • Alman’s spicy snack erroneously bears a kosher logo, this product is unfortunately not kosher certified.
    • Baumann’s Shortbread Biscuits are incorrectly labelled parev, they are in fact dairy.
    • Dairymaid Mega ice creams are incorrectly labelled parev, they are in fact dairy.
    • Food Lover’s Marie Biscuits and Food Lover’s Lemon Creams manufactured after 30 June 2020, even when bearing the BD logo, are unfortunately no longer kosher certified.
    • Fresh Earth Cheese flavour Gluten Free Seed Crackers, erroneously bears a kosher logo, this product is unfortunately not kosher certified.
    • Jelly Tots requires a kosher logo and any variation without a kosher logo is not kosher certified.
    • Jungle Oatso Easy 500g is incorrectly labelled dairy, it is in fact Parev.
    • Nola Sandwich Cream mayonnaise and Slim Reduced Oil Salad Dressing are kosher dairy, with or without a BD logo.
    • Willards Big Korn Bites Tortilla Style Jalapeno Flavoured Maize Chips are incorrectly labelled parev, they are in fact dairy.
    • Kosher Australia put out an alert with regards to Milk Lab. The following Milk Lab products are no longer kosher certified, any existing stock should be discarded.
      • Almond Milk
      • Macadamia Milk
      • Soy Milk
    • Nature Valley Granola Bars require an OU logo. Some Nature Valley Granola Bars currently available in South Africa no longer have the OU logo on the packaging and therefore are not kosher certified.

    Some of the labelling errors highlighted above do occur from time to time as manufacturers are constantly developing new products or packaging. Unfortunately due to tight deadlines or honest mistakes they occasionally print their labels before checking with us. When we are made aware of such errors, we bring it to the manufacturers' attention in order to make the necessary corrections and we notify the community immediately.
