Yoshon Information

- Barley & Oats: Still early in the season. All can be considered Yoshon until at least September 15th.
- Wheat:
- Fresh Baked Goods – May possibly be Chodosh after September 1st.
- Pasta and all other wheat-based products – May be considered Yoshon until at least Septber 15th. Further updates closer to then.
- Flour – Chodosh flours may be entering the retail market soon. Consumers should begin checking dates next week (after September 1st), details with dates will BEZ”H be updated in the next few days. Here is some info so far:
- All Purpose, Bread and Whole Wheat Flour
- Dependable – with Yoshon label only
- Giant/Stop & Shop – Aug 20, 2025
- Glicks – with Yoshon label only
- Gold Medal (KC or GF Mills) - Winter Wheat. (However, if Machmir for Bitul of a shared mill, see *)
- Gold Medal – all other mills - TBD
- Kemach – Still all Yoshon
- King Arthur - All varieties – 8/18/25
- Heckers – Still all Yoshon
- Pillsbury – 8-18-25
- Target/Market Pantry – 8-18-25
- Shoprite/Bowl & Basket – 8-18-25
*It is still unclear the exact date code structure at Gold Medal. It seems that for All Purpose & Bread flour, it can range from 12-18 months expiration which would be either 8/4/25 (12 months) or 2/4/26 (18 Months). Whole Wheat flour from Gold Medal can be either 6 months (2/4/25) or 12 months (8/4/25). We hope to have more clarity on this by the next update BEZ”H in about two weeks.

THE CHODOSH SEASON is approaching for Spring Wheat, Oats and Barley. Those who want to purchase Yoshon items to store over the Chodosh season should do so now. Please note that all grain and flour products that will be stored should be refrigerated to avoid insect infestation.
According to the Kashrus Agencies, all products can be assumed to be Yoshon until at least September 1, except for retail size bags of King Arthur and Gold Medal flours. The cut-off Best By date for King Arthur retail flours is 8/18/25. The cut-off Best By date for Gold Medal retail Whole Wheat flour is in the process of being confirmed. (Gold Medal retail All Purpose and Bread flours from plants GF and KC are made from Yoshon winter wheat. If one is machmir regarding shared
mills, the cut-off date is in the process of being confirmed.)

The following is the latest Chodosh update from the Kashrus agencies. Next update will bez”h be towards the end of August.
- Wheat: Retail Flour (not commercial)
The Kashrus Agencies have been monitoring the progress of Chodosh grains across N. America. At this point, there are a few flours from specific mills that may be Chodosh and will enter the retail market in the next few weeks. Those dates are listed below. Any other flour from any other mill can be assumed Yoshon still until at least September 1st.
- Gold Medal (KC or GF Mills)
- Whole Wheat Flour - 8/4/25
- All Purpose & Bread are Winter Wheat. If Machmir for Bitul of a shared mill – 8-4-25
- King Arthur
- Fresh Baked Goods, Pasta and other Products
As the commercial flour supply chain is different than retail flour, all products, including fresh baked goods and pasta, can be assumed Yoshon until at least September 1st. An update will bez”h be sent out towards the end of August with further information.
- Oats:
The harvest for food-grade oats has barely begun. All oats can be assumed Yoshon until at least September 1st.
- Barley:
All barley can be assumed Yoshon until at least September 1st.
