November 14, 2024: From South African Beth Din in response to a question from the editor is on the left in the attached picture.
Following information that we received from a message sent out from Israel, we checked Weetabix manufactured by Alpen in South Africa with the expiry date 28-11-2024 Batch SL 48 and found that it has infestation issues which may be due to storage problems after production.
This product is not available in South Africa. However, we checked other random batches from this supplier available on the shelves locally and did not find any further infestation issues.
In general, when making a purchase, be mindful of the production date, as the risk of storage infestation is higher in older products.
Ed. note: The question that was asked: The following infestion was reported in Israel: "The batch in which the bugs are found is SL.48, which has an expiration date of 28-11-2024. It should be considered muchzak b’tolaim, and it is prohibited to use it. The bugs are too small to allow the cereal to be checked, so it must be discarded." (ie. The infestation was due to storage problems in Israel)
