Following a global recall notice regarding the presence of a toxin in a fatty acid used as an ingredient in infant formula, Nutricia, the manufacturer of Nutrilon, has announced a precautionary recall of a single batch.
It should be noted that the recall follows an updated definition in Europe of exposure levels and threshold values for the toxin cereulide, which is produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. As a result of these events and the updated standards, levels of the toxin in this batch were found to exceed the new threshold.
