Kashrut alert: Kirkland Tequila Anejo and Kirkland Extra Anejo

March 2, 2026 information from the cRc:

Clarification of an alert on the web regarding Kirkland Tequila Anejo. The product lable says it is partially aged in wine casks.

The product is not known to contain wine, but a significant portion of the product was apparently aged in non-kosher wine casks. This is hinted to on the label which states that it was (partially) aged in French Oak casks, which is often a euphemism for wine casks. Since only a minimal amount of this product was aged in wine casks, one who already has the product may consume the product.

Going forward, one should look for aged Tequila which has a reliable hechsher or verify that it was aged in non-wine casks without additives. Consumers are reminded that all aged Tequila, including those labeled as Anejo and Reposado, may have Kashrus concerns as relates to additives, such as glycerin, and aging in wine casks, an issue commonly found with Scotch aged in Sherry casks.

Kirkland Extra Anejo Tequila is aged in cognac casks and is not recommended
