March 18, 2026 from Star-K, updated March 23, 2026 from a question from the Star0K:
Prairie’s Choice Non GMO Backyard Chicken Layer Feed, which is listed in the STAR-K Passover Pet Food Guide as suitable for chickens, has changed their formulation and now contains chometz, as noted on the ingredient panel. It should not be used on Pesach and should be sold with the chometz.
As noted in the introduction to the pet food list, since formulas are subject to change, always check the labels of pet foods before using to ensure there is no chometz listed.
Possible Chometz ingredients: Wheat (cracked, flour, germ, gluten, ground, groats, middlings, shorts, starch), barley (cracked, flour), oats (flour, groats, hulled), pasta, rye, and brewer’s dried yeast. Any questionable ingredient should be reviewed by a competent rabbinic authority.
