The following wheat allergy alert is from the FDA on October 27, 2011.

Wells Enterprises, Inc., Le Mars, Iowa voluntarily recalling a limited number of packages of its Blue Bunny® Personals® ice cream 5.5 fl oz. Personals cartons, with Lot Number 10009 “Best Used By” date 10/1/2012, - UPC 0 70640 00463. The lot number and UPC can be found printed on the side of the carton.. because it was mispackaged and contains undeclared wheat. On a limited number of packages, the lid describes the product as Blue Bunny Super Chunky Cookie Dough ice cream, and the carton portion of the package describes the product as Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Panic ice cream. The product inside the carton is Super Chunky Cookie Dough. The ingredient statement on the carton does not declare wheat, which is an ingredient in the Super Chunky Cookie Dough product. The affected product was shipped to the following states: KS, MN, MS, MO, IQ, OK, NE, ND, TN, FL, WI, OR, PA, IN, MA, and TX.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Anyone requiring more information should contact Wells consumer affairs at 1-800-331-0830 between the hours of 8am and 5pm CST Monday-Friday.

The following food recall is from the USDA on October 26, 2011.

Judy's Catering, LLC., a Burbank, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 4,100 pounds of ready-to-eat meals because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The following products are subject to recall: View Labels (PDF Only):

The products listed above bear the establishment number "P-21579" or "EST. 21579" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product label. The products also can be identified by the production dates or lot numbers 4/27/11, 6/15/11, 8/10/11, 9/12/11, or 9/13/11. The products have a six-month shelflife and can also be identified by expiration dates 10/27/11, 12/15/11, 2/10/12, 3/12/12, or 3/13/12.
The ready-to-eat meals were sent to distribution centers in the Los Angeles County, Calif. area who may have sold them to airlines and hospitals. FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

Judy's Catering, LLC produces these items on an intermittent basis and requests FSIS inspection before operating. On the days listed above, the company operated without FSIS inspection personnel present. FSIS inspection personnel visited the plant to collect data and found that the company had produced meals on these dates. FSIS may take additional regulatory action based on the results of this investigation. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that recalled product is no longer available to consumers. If available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at: www.fsis.usda.gov/FSIS_Recalls/Open_Federal_Cases.index.asp..

The following health alert is from the FDA on October 21, 2011.

October 21, 2011 - Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc., is voluntarily recalling fresh bagged Washed Spinach 12oz, with the Enjoy by date of OCT 16 sold under the f&e™ label. Fresh & Easy believes that it is important to alert consumers that might still possess this product with the Enjoy by date of Oct 16. Customers still in possession of this expired product should immediately dispose of it.

The recalled product was sold in Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores located in CA, NV, and AZ. The following health alert is from the CFIA on October 21, 2011.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Handi Foods Ltd. are warning people with allergies to sunflower seeds not to consume Handi brand 100 calories Multigrain Bagels. The affected product contains sunflower seeds which are not declared on the label in French. The affected product, Handi brand 100 calories Multigrain Bagels, is sold as follows:

All lot codes and Best Before dates are affected by this alert. This product has been distributed in Ontario and Quebec. The manufacturer, Handi Foods Ltd., Weston, ON, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.

The following health alert is from the FDA on October 20, 2011.

Church Brothers, LLC is voluntarily recalling 560 bags of clipped spinach as a precautionary measure after one bag tested positive for Salmonella during a random USDA Microbiological Data Program sampling. The recalled product was processed on October 6, 2011 and shipped in 2.5 pound bags to Super King Markets in Los Angeles, CA. The bagged spinach affected by this recall was available for sale beginning October 7, 2011 and has a “best if used by” date of 10/23/11. The recalled 2.5 pound bags of clipped spinach were in clear packaging and marked as follows: Best By Date: 10/23/2011, Manufacturer Code: A279 47166
Anyone who has in their possession any of the recalled bagged spinach as described above should not consume it, and should destroy it or return it to Church Brothers, LLC. Consumers with questions or who need information may call 1-800-799-9475.

The following pecan allergy alert is from the FDA dated October 14, 2011.

Murray Biscuit Company, LLC, is recalling a small quantity of 5.5-ounce packages of Murray Sugar Free® Chocolate Chip cookies shipped to retail customers in four states. This recall was initiated because the packages inadvertently contain Murray Sugar Free® Chocolate Chip Pecan cookies and the label does not list pecans as an ingredient. The package is an overwrapped tray and is printed with a “MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS AND TREE NUTS” declaration. People who have allergies to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions and should not eat this product. While only 12 cases of the product are incorrectly labeled, Murray is voluntarily recalling 904 cases shipped to its Alabama distribution center from one shift of production as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of consumers. The recalled product is marked with a UPC code of 82011 91335 and a best if used by date of APR1712 EA6. It was shipped to retail customers in AL, FL, GA and TN. Consumers with questions or who would like a replacement may contact the Consumer Response Center at 877-745-5582 from Monday – Friday, 8 am to 6 pm Eastern time, or visit www.Murraysugarfree.com.
